Below you'll find detailed descriptions about the ingredients utilized in Deep Sleep Formula™ - exactly HOW it works & WHY it's better than other products. Simply click on the ingredients below and a detailed description will appear under it.
L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is NOT synthesized by the body and must be obtained from food or supplements.
L-tryptophan is metabolized to serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) and melatonin, which is important for relaxation, restful sleep and positive mood.*
Deep Sleep & Healthy Circadian Rhythm: Melatonin (the "sleep" hormone) is synthesized from tryptophan.
This helps regular the body’s circadian rhythm (sleep/wake pattern), helping to regulate sleep cycles.3,4
Mood & Memory: Tryptophan is the only amino acid that is converted to serotonin via the conversion of 5 hydroxytryptamine (5 HTP).1,2.
Increasing tryptophan levels leads to a simultaneous increase in brain serotonin production ("happy" chemical) and can improve mood and memory with positive effects on behavior5,6.
GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a naturally occurring amino acid found in the brain. It is one of the major inhibitory neurotransmitters found in the body’s central nervous system. Which helps to ease stress and calm excited nerves by telling the brain to relax.12,13
Studies show GABA works by increasing relaxing brain alpha waves and reducing “busy-mind” beta waves.12,13
GABA levels can decrease when a person is subjected to stressful conditions.
Additionally, aging causes a major decrease in GABA production and receptor sensitivity.
Unfortunately, regular GABA is created in a synthetic form and produced by using harsh chemicals.
PharmaGABA® is GABA produced through natural fermentation by Lactobacillus hilgardii. Clinical studies show that PharmaGABA® can increase alpha-waves and reduce stress-related beta-waves, thus helping to promote calmness and relaxation.
In a head-to-head, double-blind trial of natural PharmaGABA® versus "regular" synthetic GABA, the synthetic GABA did not demonstrate these positive effects.7
Many prescription "sleep" medications used for insomnia, typically target GABA receptors. Unfortunately, they do so in an unnatural way, which causes lower REM sleep (not deep sleep), morning fatigue and grogginess, as well as addictions.
Using the natural form of PharmaGABA® gives similar relaxation and sleep benefits, without the negative side-effects because it's working WITH your body and not against it.
Ornithine is an amino acid naturally produced in the body. It helps enhance sleep quality by reducing stress and anxiety.
The clinical validated daily dose in humans is 400 mg, taken nightly, 30 min before bedtime.8 This is the exact dose used in Deep Sleep Formula™
The polyphenols in magnolia bark — specifically honokiol and magnolol — have been found to help induce and improve sleep. It's been utilized as a natural remedy for insomnia and for promoting better sleep overall. 9-11
Magnolia bark’s effects on sleep appear to be closely connected to the activity of the GABA(A) receptors in the central nervous system.
The herb chamomile has long been used as a natural sleep aid. Part of this effect is attributed to its GABA-enhancing activity.17
However, chamomile and its active components, particularly the nutrient apigenin, has additional mechanisms to further promote deeper sleep.14
Apigenin, works as a blocker of orexin, which reduces wakefulness and promotes deeper sleep.15,16
By enhancing GABA and reducing orexin, you get double the benefits allowing one to sleep faster and stay asleep longer.
Hops have a long history of being used to help improve sleep. Scientific research shows that hops, with its natural sedative effects, can increase sleep time.
Hops also helps to lower body temperature — falling core body temperature is one important physiological step toward falling asleep.18
Hops has also been shown to reinforce the body’s daily bio rhythms of rest and activity.19
Hops can also help alleviate restlessness and anxiety, while also reducing stress.20
Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by the body that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. When working correctly, it increases at night time and decreases in the morning.
Unfortunately, many things can interfere with melatonin production, such as excessive light in the evening, jet lag, stress (high cortisol) and shift work.
Additionally, as we age the body produces less melatonin.
Ordinary melatonin supplements leave the body after 3-4 hours. So while they may aid in falling asleep, they are not effective for those who have difficulty staying asleep or waking too early.
MicroActive® Melatonin was developed to address this issue through a micronized, sustained-release technology that ensures the melatonin is gradually released over 6-7 hours.
We also using a plant-sourced, bioidentical form of Melatonin to mimic and function like your own natural hormone.
Additionally, while ordinary melatonin supplements expose the body to an unusually high spike of melatonin upon consumption.
While MicroActive® Melatonin's sustained release technology allows a consistent dose over a long period of time in order to better support a more natural and deeper sleep.
